Hoof Dissection
Hoof Capsule
After soaking in a solution you are able to slip the entire hoof capsule off the attached pedal bone.
A: These are the primary epidermal lamina. There are, on average 600 of these, each having an addition 100 secondary epidermal lamina that cannot be seen without magnification. This allows for a large attachment area.
B: The Periople is a soft protective layer just above the level of the coranary band and acts as protection for the coranary band.
C: The Coronary groove holds the sensitive coronary band which produces the hoof wall that we see as the outer layer. You can see tiny little holes in the groove, these are the epidermal papillary socket which house the coronary papillae

Articular surfaces of the 3rd phalanx and distal sesamoid bone or coffin bone and navicular bone repectivley.
